Can You Help?

A few months ago, I received an email from a Christian sister in another state. She was leading a ladies Bible study in her home church and using the commentary on Luke 1–9 that I finished writing nine years ago. She wanted to thank me for my work.

The receipt of her note reminded me why I write; it also encouraged me to keep writing. As Joe Barnett wrote decades ago, the printed word has a uniquely lasting value for influence and meditation on God’s word. I write with the conviction that somewhere, someone wants to know, and perhaps something I will write will inform and/or encourage them.

Earlier this year, I shared with you that the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas has committed to actively support my writing ministry by assisting with fundraising and managing donations (endorsement here). Since sharing that announcement, each issue of The Berea Page and Opening the Scriptures has included a link to College Church’s Giving page. Some of you have used that link to donate. I am grateful for your support.

As we enter the final quarter of 2026, a time when many are making plans for their financial commitments in 2027, I’m asking you to consider including my ministry in your plans, whether individually or by recommending my work to a church or other entity with an interest in teaching Scripture via the written word.

As I seek to secure my goal of $2,000.00 of monthly support, here are some ways you can help.

  1. Please pray for this ministry—for me, that my writings will be accurate, wise, and clear; and for the potential impact my teaching will have on those who read what I’ve written.
  2. Consider becoming a sustaining patron of my ministry. Larger donations are always helpful, of course, and are much appreciated. But so, too, are the donations of $5.00, $10.00, or $25.00 a month that sustain many worthy projects. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work.”
  3. If you are not able to be a sustaining donor, consider making periodic one-time donations as you can.
  4. Share the information about my ministry with a church, or other entity that might be in a position to help. In some churches, for example, Bible classes or other smaller groups undertake special projects; if someone you know is looking for one, consider asking them to consider this ministry of teaching.
  5. Please help extend the reach of my writings by telling others who might be interested in their content. Help me grow my subscriber list, and potential impact of this work, by sharing the newsletter articles and sign-up information with your friends.

I'm always happy to discuss or provide more information. Please contact me at david@davidanguish.com, or visit the Writing Ministry page on my website.

As always, I am thankful you are one of my newsletter subscribers. I look forward to beginning volume 8 of The Berea Page (next issue: “Unsung Brothers,” October 6) and continuing the study of 1 Peter in volume 4 of Opening the Scriptures (next issue: “Peter’s ‘Living Hope’—Reasons for Confidence,” October 13).

“May grace and peace be multiplied to you” (1 Peter 1.2).

Yours in Christ,

David Anguish

I publish two newsletters: [1]"Berea Page" (15 times a year) which includes a feature article (about 600 words), mainly focused on matters related to why we believe in Jesus, enduring trials and suffering with faith, and the relationship between faith and truth; and sidebar reflection quotations selected from my reading; and "Opening the Scriptures" (22 times a year),1000-1500 word expositions of selection from the biblical text. Both are archived at www.davidanguish.com

The Coming One … and His Mission David Anguish Following Jesus’ sermon at Nazareth, which, in Luke, “is programmatic for … understanding … the mission of Jesus” (Luke 4.16–30) (Green 1995, 76), the author recounts a series of episodes that showcase Jesus’ teaching, healings, exorcisms, nature miracles, calling of disciples, socializing with outsiders, Sabbath works, and responses to criticism (4.31—6.11). He then reports Jesus’ selection of the twelve apostles and the core principles of his...
